I can't believe that tomorrow marks the end of my college classes. I admit there were times where I wanted it to end but now that it's about to it's kind of sad. It's like a bittersweet moment. I'm going to miss the new friends I made. I honestly didn't think I would talk to them. Not that anything was wrong with them but I'm kind of shy sometimes. I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience the college life. I learned some good things about me and some bad things about me. I know I got a lot of  bad habits to break. But I also know that I have a lot of good habits that I need to develop. I just hope that I passed all my classes though. It would be heartbreaking if I didn't.

Volunteer

One way to get a great job experience is to volunteer. By volunteering you can get a firsthand experience at the job they want to do. Sometimes people can find out what they want to become in life. For instance, if someone volunteers at a daycare they might find out that they actually enjoy working with kids. So now they know that they should become something that deals with kids. If they wouldn't have volunteered they probably wouldn't have known that. They would have probably made a career out of something that would not have made them as happy as they are when they work with kids. Volunteering can also get people used to working with others and develop their people skills. No matter where you work at you are going to have to be able to work with other people and deal with their attitudes. If you volunteer somewhere you will be able to get used to people and how they act with others. Plus, you can find out more stuff about yourself.

Job

One thing I suggest anyone, especially college students, to do is to get a job. I know everyone might not need it but if you do then get one. Of course that will bring on extra responsibilities so if you can't handle the extra load then don't do it. The reason I suggest people to get a job is so they can be independent. They won't have to depend on others to give them money so they can do what they want to do. They can feel great because they actually worked for what they got. Plus, they will learn how to be more responsible. When people make their own money they tend to be more careful when spending it. If they do decide to spend it, it would be on something they need instead of something they want. Times are getting hard so people really need to get a job if they can. Gas prices are raising, and people can't depend on their friends and family to give them gas money. They are going to have to work for their gas money and more money for other extracurricular activities.

Family

When your back is against the wall and you need someone you always have your family. No matter what they will always be there for you. I know they might get on your nerves and you can't stand them at times but no matter what you'll always love them. Yes y'all are going to argue and fuss and fight but when the time comes they'll have your back. No matter what they'll be there for you. Yes there are some family members that you got to distance yourself away from but not all.  Remember that you can't pick your family. But you know most if your family will lift you up when you are feeling down. They'll defend you when it seems like you can't defend yourself. They won't turn their backs on you when you need them the most. If they got it you got it. That's how family is suppose to be. I feel sorry for those people who don't get the chance to feel that type of love or have that type of bond with their family. If you do have that bond you got to appreciate. A lot of people would kill to be in your shoes.

Got to do better

These last few weeks I haven’t really been giving my all to my classes. I mean I do my work but I could do way better. I really have been slacking, especially in my English class. I really go to do better. My grade should be better than what it is. I mean I know she said that all of our grades aren’t calculated yet but that’s not an excuse. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I got to get my head in the game. I mean I know it’s late but it’s not too late. I can and I will pull my grade up. If I don’t then I will be basically doing all of this work for no reason. I refuse to waste my time on anything. I know I’m not technically wasting my time but that’s what it would be like. I got to get my head in the books for the remainder of the semester. I know if I do what I know I can do I’ll pass my classes with at least a B. This is going to be a long last week and a half. But I know in the end it will be worth it.

Classes

My math class ended so early yesterday. I mean we have never gotten out of class 30 minutes early. It was so shocking that I didn’t know what to do with my time. Everybody went to the library and just sat in there. The thing is I mean literally everyone who didn’t have a class was in the library. According to the librarians we were very loud. The thing is that everyone was whispering. Maybe because a lot of was in there it seemed liked that. To us we weren’t even being loud. Then they started going overboard. I was standing doing a quick braid and I got yelled at for that. They act like I was killing somebody or something. They didn’t even want me to stand up. I mean like that’s just crazy. It wasn’t any seats at the table so I didn’t have a seat. Eventually I got a seat and sat down. It still seemed like they were doing the most. It seemed like every time I looked around they were yelling as us telling us to be quiet. It was like the more people that came in the more they yelled. I eventually just got my stuff and left.

Work Hard Stay Humble

Work Hard Stay Humble. Those are four words that everyone should live by. You’ve got to grind hard in order to be successful in life. Nothing in life is giving to you. You have really got to work for what you want. Once you have gotten it you have to be humble. It’s to be proud of your accomplishments but don’t be a proud person. What I mean when I say that is to not be a showoff. When you are around other don’t always bring up your accomplishments. Don’t through your success in other people faces. You can lose all that just as fast as you gained it. Once you lose it then what are you going to do? Plus, no one likes a showoff. You will quickly lose friends or gain fake ones. You worked hard for your success and by being proud you’ll have no one to share it with.  No matter what you got to be humble. It’s ok to say something every now and then but not all the time. You don’t have to speak about your accomplishments. Just sit back and let your accomplishments speak for you. Always remember to Work Hard Stay Humble.

Third Day

The third day of college was kind of hard. Math class was so hard to me. I mean I've done some work like it but I couldnt see to get it. Eventually it go a little easier and I was able to do it. Once I got used to the work and the steps to do it I was able to do it with ease. Don't get me wrong I still had some problems along the way, but I ended up getting it. The problems we did in class did help me with my homework. When I tried doing it before we did the problems in class I struggled a lot. When I tried it afterwards I did it with ease. We got out of class exactly on time. I went to english next and I couldn't concentrate. My mind was everywhere but the right place. Once I started doing more work I was able to concentrate better. I struggled a little with the work but I ended up getting it in the end. Both of my classes seemed so long because I was so tired. Once I got home I started doing my math and english homework. Well I did most of them.

Second Day

The second day of college was actually started my college life. In math we started factoring. At first it was kind of hard because I didn't remember how to do it. Once I started doing it and remembering it actually got easy. I had some very slow moments where I made some simple mistakes but I started getting the hang of things. The problems started getting eassier and easier. Class actually seemed bettter that day. Time went by faster yet slower though. I finished all my work and wet outside just to stand in the sun. We had twenty minutes to spare so we just stood around talking. In english two more people joined the class from my school. We actually wrote our first essay that day and Wednesday we took a diagnostic test. Our essay was about what we wanted to be when we grow up. It was timed so we had to write kind of fast. I have two jobs I want to do, so I had to join them together. It was very easy considering that I can actually do both of those jobs at the same time. I want to study mass comm. in the Navy my essay was easy to write.

My first day

I was kind of nervous for my first day of college. I didn't know what to expect from my teachers. I've heard stories about the first day of college but every story was different. When I first walked into the building I found everyone from my school and went and talked with them. Once I found out who was in my first class we went and found out seats. When my math class started I thought that the teacher was mean. She didn't do anything to make me think it, but I just assumed it. As class went by I saw that she wasn't mean. She was actually a nice and funny person. We did a little bit of work that day which was very easy. Class ended really early that day. At 10:10 the first english class was over and they came and met us. They told us that their class was gonna be so hard. They started telling us about the homewrok they had already. I was scared to go to my english class. When I met my englsih teacher she wasnt nothing like they described. She was a very nice and sweet person. We introduced ourselves and wrote an essay. My english class ended early too. Once it ended I left school and went home.

Friendships

In life you will meet a lot of people who claim that they are your friend. They will smile and laugh in your face but talk behind your back. Despite all of that you will find one person who is really your friend. They will go to war over you and have your back through thick and thin. Of course y’all will argue, fight, and stop talking to each for a while. The arguing and stuff will not last long. Y’all can stop talking to each other one day and the next y’all will back best friends. The two of you will go through so much together and have each other’s back through it all. You know all of their secrets and they know all of yours. They will support you through everything; even the things they don’t agree with. When they have to they will step in and let you know that you’re wrong. You will know when you find this person because y’all will be the closest out of all of your friends. Once you find this person don’t let them go. This will be your friend for the rest of your life. Keep them as close as possible.

Dont Give Up!!

Never give up on what you really want. It’s going to get hard and you’re going to want to just give up but you can’t. No matter what you got to keep pushing on. If it’s it worth it then it won’t come easy. If it is easy then it is not worth having. I promise you that the feeling you’ll have when get what you worked for will be so much better than just giving up. I know the battle you’ll have to face in order to gain that feeling is hectic and crazy but it will be worth it. Remember that the road to success is not easy. If you just throw in the towel and walk away from what you want you will regret it. I know no one wants to look back and said I wish I could’ve, I should’ve, or I wonder what would’ve happen if I would’ve done this. You won’t have to worry about all of that if you just do it when you get the chance to. Don’t live a life full of regrets. Go for the gold and don’t give up on you. By giving up on your dreams your giving up on yourself so please don’t do that.

Support Team

Everyone needs someone to support them, whether it’s your mom, dad, sister, brother, cousin, grandparents, cousin, aunt, uncle, teacher, friend, or coworker. They need someone to encourage them to keep going when they want to give up. A lot of people don’t have that person and that’s why they just give up and let it go. If they had the one person to keep pushing them and encouraging them to keep fighting for what they want they probably would’ve. Everyone needs someone to have their back. Without this person it is nearly impossible for anyone to keep going. This supporting person is the other person backbone. This is the person that people look to when they are down and out. When everyone tells them that they can’t this person tells them they can. When they don’t believe in their selves this person believes in them. When everyone turns their back this person is always there. This supportive person becomes a role model and an idol. That’s who people look to when they are in trouble and need help. They’re not a yes man but more of a great friend. They’re someone to support you and tell you where you need to change. Plus, they’ll help you make that change.

Don't Procrastinate

Procrastination is truly the thief of time. I recommend everyone out there to never put off what you can do now for later because later is sooner than you think.  I put off work so much that when the due date comes I have to rush and do the work. That’s one of the worst habits that I have. I tried to get over it but I can’t seem to. Sometimes when I put off work I end up having more work to do. Like this week I put off doing some work for my mom and by the time I got to it I had more work to do.  The time I was saying oh I’ll do it later I should’ve been doing it then. Now look at me with almost a day full of work to do. I could’ve done that one simple job in 30 minutes but I wanted to procrastinate. It’s true when people say get all your work done now so you can rest later. Instead I rested then and working now. I hope everyone really takes heed to what I’m saying because trying to rush and do work is really stressful. I promise you I'm going to break this habit.

Get Sleep

Note to every college and future college students out there when you can get your sleep get it.  I swear you are going to need your rest and energy in class. It was truly the struggle for me to stay awake in my classes today. I started dong random things so I wouldn’t nod off. I’m surprised no one noticed me. I stayed up until 1:30 last night trying to finish all my homework. The crazy thing was I forgot to do some of it. I didn’t get home until 11:00 and I was trying to do it then but the BET Awards was on. I eventually stopped watching it and focused on my homework but I got stuck on two problems. I asked some of my classmates to help me but they were stuck on those same problems. I was trying my hardest to get it done and I never paid attention to the time. The next time I looked at my phone it was 1:30 a.m. I just said forget and got ready for bed. By the time I finished getting ready it was 2:15. The sad thing is I didn’t go to sleep until fifteen minutes later. Then I had to get up at 6:30 this morning. Trust me when I say this you need your sleep.

Time Management

In college you have to learn time management. Without it you will have a hard time passing your classes. You have to know what’s important so you can spend more time on that. For example, if you have two assignments due but one’s due a couple of days before of the other one then that’s more important.  You should focus on the one with the closer due date because you have to turn that one in first. Don’t get me wrong you have to spend time doing the other but the other one needs your attention first. This goes back to another post I made before about putting your priorities in order. If you do this you should be able to get your work done and have time for you. In order to get everything done and do what you want you have to manage your time correctly. If you spend most of your time socializing you’ll never get your work done. If you spend most of your time doing work you’ll never have time to do what you want. You got to find a balance between the two. The only way you going to do that is by managing your time. I’m telling you that is the key to success in college.

Determination, Dedication, and Discipline

Everyone have dreams and goals that they want to accomplish in life. In order to do that you need the 3 D’s: Determination, Dedication, and Discipline. Without these three things it will be impossible to get anything done.  First everyone needs a goal that they want to achieve. Once they have that they got to be determined to reach their goal. You got to say this is what I want and I’m going to get it. Once you’re determined you got to be dedicated. If you’re not determined then what’s the point? There are going to be times where you want to quit and give up but you got to have the power and will to persist.  If you don’t you’ll never accomplish any of the goals you set. Of course giving up will be easier but what comes easy is not worth it. Last, you have to have self – discipline. Without self-discipline you’ll be ready to give up any and every time. You got to tell yourself that giving up now won’t give you the glory that you will get in the end if you keep going. Everyone need the three D's in order to succeed in life. Determination + dedication + discipline= success.

Help for College Freshman

I may have not "been in college" for long but I already know and understand things college freshman need to know.
1.       Prioritize.
·         Your school work comes before anything else. Especially before your social life.
·         If you find yourself having a lot of time to chill with friends and be on social network sites, but not enough time to do your homework you might want to check your priorities.
2.       Don’t get overwhelmed.
·         Don't let your work pile up on you and then when the due date gets her you got to try to finish all of it.
·         If you know your due date try to do a certain amount of work each day.
3.       Don’t get stressed
·          I know sometimes the work gets hard and it seems like a lot but you can't let that stress you out.
·         When you get stressed things seems 10x worst then what they really are.
4.       Don’t procrastinate
·         I am a big procrastinator and I see already that I'm going to have to change that.
·         The only thing procrastination is going to do is stress me out, cause me to fail, and hurt me in the long run.
Below I have a link that will help out.

College Life Day 5

One thing that I have learned in these five days is that you have to work hard in college. I can't just do the work in class and expect to pass the test. I'm going to have to study and study hard. College is way different than high school. I have never had to study for a math test. I usually just do the work in class and review when the teacher reviews. Well, college proffesers don't do that. I'm going to have to set aside a time everyday and study the material we went over in class if I expect to pass my classes. I can't just study the day before or right before the test. If I do I'm just setting myself up for failure. Maybe I should find the kids from my school and start a study group. My teacher suggested that but I didnt think I would really need to be in one. I see now that I really need to take her advice into consideration. I am so glad I got the opportunity to take these classes now because they are really getting me prepared for college. If I wouldn't have taken these classes I was in for a rude awakening when I actually got to college.

Monday, June 23, 2014

So today started my first full week of college. For some reason I was actually stressed out. Maybe it's because I kept thinking about the homework I had to complete and the test I have on tomorrow. I'm kind of nervous because I tend to forget things when it comes down to the test. I really don't want to fail my first college test. I really would be stressed then. It would be hard to bring that grade up. I hope I do good on it. In English class we worked on the types of grammar and i really needed that. For some reason I cant seem to get it right. I'll get some of the problems done and then I can't figure out the rest. Maybe I need to get a tutor, or maybe I could do some individual work. I think I'm going to try the second option first and see how that works. I see what people mean now when they say college ain't no joke. I can tell that I cant do here what I do in college. I'm going to have to study and I cant slack off. This is going to be a long four weeks.
